MEET THE NUCLEUS
Deep inside almost every cell in your body sits the nucleus, a round control center that acts like the cell's brain. It stores the master instructions for life: your DNA. From this protected vault the cell decides when to grow, when to divide, and which proteins to build. Without a working nucleus, a cell cannot run its genetic program for long. In many animal cells it is the largest organelle you can see under a light microscope.
⚡ DID YOU KNOW?
Scottish botanist Robert Brown first used the word "nucleus" in 1831 when he spotted a dark round body inside plant cells. Scientists now know that structure holds the genetic code of complex life.
