Indigenous knowledge comes from many nations across the world. This comic shares general teachings found in several traditions. No single story speaks for every community. We learn best when we listen carefully, avoid stereotypes, and never treat any culture as one simple costume or joke.

NOT ONE PIECE ALONE
WELLNESS HAS FOUR PARTS
Many Indigenous approaches to health look at the whole person, not just a sore knee or a sad afternoon. Physical strength, mental clarity, emotional honesty, and spiritual connection are like four legs on a stool. Remove one and you wobble. Communities also seek balance between hunting and rest, speaking and listening, taking from land and giving back.
⚡ DID YOU KNOW?
The medicine wheel used by several Plains nations places directions, seasons, and aspects of life around a circle to show how balance keeps people and land healthy together.

OUT OF SYNC
IMBALANCE SHOWS
Ignore your feelings and headaches may grow. Skip rest and anger flares over small things. Take without giving back and a community feels the strain. Elders often notice imbalance early: a youth who stops singing, a river that runs cloudy, a council where nobody listens. Healing begins by naming what is tilted and gently bringing it home to center.
⚡ DID YOU KNOW?
Wellness in many traditions includes four parts: body, mind, heart, and spirit. When one part suffers, the whole person and community feel the strain.

BALANCE CAN RETURN
Healing rituals vary by nation and should not be copied like recipes. Yet a shared idea appears: harmony returns through connection. That may mean sharing food, dancing, sweating in a lodge where appropriate and invited, walking alone by water, or apologizing when harm was done. Spirit is not separate from breakfast or homework. Daily acts can mend the wheel.
🌿 TRADITION
Maori concepts like hauora and Anishinaabe teachings on mino-bimaadiziwin both point toward living well through balanced physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

WE NOT ONLY ME
VILLAGES NEED HARMONY
Balance is not only private. A council needs youth voices and elder patience. A fishery needs harvest limits and spawning seasons. Gender roles, when respected locally, can complement rather than compete. Many traditions teach that injustice against one person shakes the whole net. Justice, laughter, and fair sharing are medicine for groups as well as individuals.
⚡ DID YOU KNOW?
Healing circles, talking with elders, time in nature, and ceremony can help restore balance when daily life feels out of sync.

PAGE 5 OF 5 — THE BIG IDEA
PUTTING IT TOGETHER
KEEP THE WHEEL TURNING
Seeking balance is lifelong work, not a one-time trophy. Some days your body runs fast while your heart feels quiet. Some seasons a community celebrates while others mourn. The goal is not perfect stillness. It is noticing when something slips and choosing small steps back toward center: sleep, truth, prayer if your tradition welcomes it, play, and repair. Harmony returns because people keep trying together.
