PAGE 1 OF 5 — THAT FACE IN THE MIRROR
Look Closer...

THAT FACE IS YOU!
Look in a mirror. You know that face is yours. That feels easy. But you were not born knowing it. Scientists test this with a mirror and a tiny red dot. They put the dot on a baby's nose, then hold up a mirror. Very young babies reach out and touch the glass. Older toddlers reach up and touch their own nose instead.
🧭 THE RED DOT TEST
Most children start passing the mirror test between about 18 months and 2 years old. Before that, the baby in the mirror is just another baby.
WHO?!
Brand New

👶 A newborn does not know that the face in the mirror belongs to them.
🍼 Babies often smile at the glass as if they have met a brand new friend.
Big Moment

🧒 Around 18 months, a toddler touches their own nose instead of the mirror.
✨ That tiny move shows a huge idea has arrived in their mind: I am me.
