Morocco's response to going behind was tactically brilliant. They did not panic or change their system radically. Instead, they kept their disciplined 4-3-3 shape but pushed their full-backs higher to create width, asking Achraf Hakimi on the right and their left-back to overlap into attacking positions at every opportunity. The result was constant crosses into the penalty box for En-Nesyri, who is one of the best headers of a ball in international football. On 67 minutes, Hakimi delivered a teasing cross from the right flank with pace and curve, aiming for the back post. En-Nesyri had been making intelligent runs all half, and this time he timed his run perfectly: arriving at the ball in full sprint, he leapt above two Brazilian defenders to power a fierce downward header into the net. The Brazilian goalkeeper was helpless, the ball almost ripping through the net with the force of the contact. The Moroccan fans in the Rose Bowl erupted in joyous celebration, singing and chanting as their team produced yet another statement moment at a World Cup to match their heroics in 2022.

Drawing 1-1 with Brazil at the Rose Bowl, Los Angeles, was Morocco's most emphatic statement yet that African football belongs among the world's elite.
