MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey just outside New York City became the centrepiece of the 2026 World Cup's opening weekend as the United States took on Paraguay in Group D. Over 82,000 fans packed the enormous arena, waving the Stars and Stripes in every direction, creating a wall of red, white and blue that stretched from field level to the very top of the upper deck. For the USA, this was more than a football match. It was a chance to prove to the world that American soccer had arrived, grown, and was ready to compete at the very highest level on its own soil.
