A trap is a first touch that completely stops the ball, leaving it dead at your feet with nowhere to bounce. Trapping with the sole of your foot is perfect when the ball rolls toward you on the ground: place your boot gently on top and the ball sits still like it is glued there. For aerial passes, players trap with the thigh, chest, or even the head, letting the ball drop softly before playing on. The best trappers read the pass early, move their body into the right position, and choose the right surface before the ball arrives. In a crowded World Cup midfield, trapping the ball in one touch is the difference between keeping possession and losing it instantly.
⚡ CHEST CONTROL
For a high pass, arch your back slightly and let the ball hit your chest, then drop it to your feet. Do not push forward with your chest or the ball will fly away from you.
