Body percussion means making rhythm using only your own body, no drum or instrument required. Musicians usually use four basic body sounds: a stomp with your feet, a pat on your thighs, a clap with your hands, and a click with your fingers. Each one makes a totally different sound. Stomps are deep and heavy, pats are warm and medium, claps are bright and sharp, and clicks are tiny and crisp. A German composer named Carl Orff helped make body percussion popular in music classrooms in the twentieth century, and teachers all over the world still use his ideas today.

Stomp, pat, clap, and click go from the lowest sound to the highest sound, just like notes going up a musical scale.
