MEET LYCAON PICTUS
The African wild dog is also called the painted wolf because of its patchwork coat. Its scientific name is Lycaon pictus. Big round ears, long legs, and a bushy tail with a white tip make it easy to spot on the savanna. No two dogs look exactly alike: each has unique black, brown, tan, and white patches. They live in tight packs and greet each other with excited tail wags and face licks. These are wild hunters, not pet dogs. They are one of Africa's rarest and most special carnivores.
