🐆 LEOPARD: THE INVISIBLE PREDATOR

PAGE 1 OF 5 — VANISHING ACT
GHOST CAT

THE CAT YOU ALMOST NEVER SEE
The leopard is a powerful big cat with a golden coat covered in dark rosette spots. Its scientific name is Panthera pardus. Unlike lions, leopards live alone and move like shadows through grass and trees. Their spot pattern breaks up their outline, so they seem to disappear even when you look straight at them. That is why people call them the invisible predator. They hunt mostly at night or in the cool hours of dawn and dusk. When a leopard succeeds, it often carries its meal somewhere safe before eating.
⚡ DID YOU KNOW?
Leopards have the widest range of any big cat. They still live across much of Africa and Asia, from steamy rainforests to dry deserts.

ROSETTES

🎨 Rosette spots are ring-shaped marks that help leopards blend into shifting light and shadow.
🌿 In tall grass, a still leopard can look like just another patch of dappled gold and brown.

🔬 Scientists classify the leopard as Panthera pardus, in the same genus as lions and tigers.
👃 Long whiskers and sharp hearing help this solitary hunter find prey in the dark.
