COMMON WARTHOG

The common warthog is a tough wild pig of Africa. Its scientific name is Phacochoerus africanus. Warthogs have grey-brown bodies, bristly manes, and warty bumps on their faces. Those bumps are thick skin pads, not random lumps. Both males and females grow sharp curved tusks that stick out from the mouth. They trot across open grassland in family groups and hold their tails straight up like little flagpoles. Warthogs look funny, but they are fast, alert, and built to survive lions, leopards, and hyenas on the savanna.
