SOUTHERN GIANT

THE SOUTHERN TITAN
Giganotosaurus carolinii was one of the biggest meat-eating dinosaurs ever found. Its fossils come from Argentina in the Late Cretaceous, roughly 99 to 97 million years ago. Scientists named it in 1993 after bones dug up near the town of El ChocΓ³n. Adults often reached about 12 to 13 metres long, a bit longer than a typical T. rex. That does not mean it was the heaviest predator ever, but it was huge. With its long legs and massive head, Giganotosaurus ruled the southern continents as a top hunter.

⛏️ RubΓ©n Carolini led the team that found Giganotosaurus near El ChocΓ³n in Patagonia, Argentina, in the early 1990s.
🦴 The discovery shocked the world because this southern predator rivalled T. rex in size.
SKULL
Comic close-up of Giganotosaurus long narrow skull compared to a shorter tyrannosaur snout
🦴 Giganotosaurus had a long, narrow skull, not the short bulldog face of T. rex.
🦷 Its jaws held rows of blade-like teeth built for slicing flesh, not crushing bone.
