Far under your feet, Earth has layers like a giant peach. Deep in the middle sits a hot metal core. The outer part of that core is liquid metal that slowly swirls and spins. That moving metal acts a bit like a giant dynamo. It helps create Earth's magnetic field, an invisible force that wraps around the planet. You cannot see the field with your eyes, but tools can feel it. Without that deep motion, compasses would not work the same way.
