PAGE 1 OF 5, HUGE LAND ON EARTH
LANDMASS
Comic Earth globe showing big coloured continents surrounded by blue oceans
A CONTINENT IS HUGE LAND
A continent is a very large piece of land on Earth. Oceans wrap around these big landmasses, so continents stand out on a globe or map. Continents are much larger than islands. An island is land with water all around it, but it is usually far smaller. When people talk about continents in school, they often mean the biggest land areas used on classroom maps. Looking at Earth from space, you can see green, brown, and white land beside deep blue seas.
⚡ DID YOU KNOW?
Continents are landmasses. Islands are land too, but continents are the giant ones on school maps.
LAND!
BIG VS SMALL
Comic comparison of a huge continent coastline beside a small island in blue ocean
🪨 Continents are giant landmasses, while most islands are much smaller pieces of land.
🌊 Both can meet the ocean, but size is a big clue when we talk about continents.
ON A GLOBE

🌐 A globe shows land and ocean shapes more fairly than a flat map can.
👀 Spinning a globe helps you notice how continents sit in the blue oceans.
