EARTH'S INVISIBLE BELT
The equator is an imaginary line that wraps around the middle of Earth. You cannot walk on a painted stripe in the ocean or dig it up from the ground. Map makers draw it so we can talk about the planet's centre belt. It sits halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole. If you spin a globe, that middle circle is the equator. Every place on it shares the same special location: zero degrees latitude.
