A CAPITAL BETWEEN WORLDS
In 330 CE Emperor Constantine dedicated a new capital on the Bosporus Strait: Constantinople. It sat where Europe meets Asia and where the Black Sea meets the Mediterranean. While western Rome faded under pressure, the eastern Roman Empire continued from this golden city. Later historians call it the Byzantine Empire, but its people called themselves Romans for centuries.
⚡ DID YOU KNOW?
