Along the Indus River system, Bronze Age cities thrived more than 4,000 years ago. Harappa and Mohenjo-daro are the most famous. Archaeologists found grid streets, baked-brick houses, and covered drains when much of the world still lived in smaller villages. We know them from ruins and objects, not from readable royal inscriptions.
