ANDES EMPIRE

FOUR PARTS OF THE WORLD
The Inca called their realm Tawantinsuyu, the land of four quarters, with Cusco as the sacred centre. From highland Peru they linked valleys across modern Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and parts of Chile and Argentina. They built without iron tools or wheeled transport for everyday empire work, yet raised huge stone walls that still fit so tightly a knife blade barely slips between blocks. Llamas carried loads on mountain trails. Farmers carved green steps into steep hillsides.
⚡ DID YOU KNOW?
Many Inca walls use precisely cut stones fitted without mortar, a style that helps buildings flex in earthquakes.
