THE SKELETON HOLDS YOU UP
Bones are not dead sticks inside you. They form a living frame that lets you stand, run, and jump. An adult human has 206 bones, from tiny ear bones to the long femur in your thigh. Babies start with more separate pieces that fuse as they grow. The skull shields your brain. Ribs guard your heart and lungs. Without bones, you would be a floppy puddle on the floor.
⚡ DID YOU KNOW?
Pound for pound, bone can be stronger than steel in compression. It is also lighter, which helps you move.
STAND!
JOINTS

🦵 Joints are places where bones meet and move, like hinges at knees and elbows.
🛼 Cartilage pads the ends so bones do not grind painfully together.
GROW

📏 Long bones grow from special zones near the ends until you reach adult height.
👶 Some baby bones fuse together later, which is why adults have fewer total bones.
