The pelagic zone is the open ocean. It is the water away from the coast and away from the seafloor. Think of a giant blue room with no walls and no floor under your feet. Most of Earth's ocean is this open water habitat. Fish, whales, jellyfish, and tiny floating plants live here. It is one of the biggest living spaces on the whole planet.
