WHY THE SUN RISES EAST
Earth rotates from west to east. That means the eastern horizon meets the sunlight first. So the Sun appears to rise in the east and set in the west. If you could hover above the North Pole and watch, Earth would spin counterclockwise. Stars seem to wheel across the night sky for the same reason. Everything looks like it moves, but it is mostly Earth doing the turning.

Day does not flip to night in one second. At dawn, the sky glows before the Sun peeks over the horizon. At dusk, light lingers after the Sun drops. This twilight happens because sunlight still scatters in the upper atmosphere when the Sun is just below the horizon. Earth's curve also means the Sun's light can reach high clouds even when the ground is in shadow. Rotation plus atmosphere paint beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
