SMART STUFF

BEING SMART IS MORE THAN ONE THING!
When people say someone is "intelligent," what do they mean? Solving math fast? Writing great stories? Fixing a bike? Comforting a sad friend? Psychologists have argued about this for over a century. Intelligence is your ability to learn, reason, solve problems, and adapt to new situations. But no single number captures everything. French psychologist Alfred Binet built one of the first practical intelligence tests in 1905 with Theodore Simon to find students who needed extra school help. His work launched the IQ testing tradition. Today we know IQ scores measure useful skills, yet they miss creativity, kindness, wisdom, and street smarts.
⚡ DID YOU KNOW?
Binet never wanted his test to label people as permanently smart or dumb. He saw it as a tool to help children who needed support, not to rank human worth.
