Trauma happens when an event is so frightening, painful, or overwhelming that your mind and body struggle to cope. It can come from accidents, violence, war, natural disasters, abuse, or sudden loss. Most people feel shock, fear, or numbness afterward. Many heal with time, safety, and support.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is when severe symptoms last longer than about a month and disrupt daily life. PTSD is a real medical condition. It can affect soldiers, survivors, witnesses, and even children. Understanding trauma is the first step toward kindness for yourself and others who carry hard memories.
