THE RAMAYANA

AYODHYA
PRINCE OF AYODHYA
Rama was the eldest son of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya โ an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, born to destroy evil. Skilled in archery, dharmic in character, and beloved by all his people. He won his wife Sita by lifting the divine bow of Shiva (which no other man could even move) in a swayamvara tournament.
THE EXILE
14 YEARS IN THE FOREST
Dasharatha's second wife Kaikeyi claimed two boons โ her son Bharata would be king, and Rama would be exiled for 14 years. Rama accepted without complaint (dharma above personal desire). Sita and loyal brother Lakshmana went with him.
Bharata refused the throne and ruled only as Rama's caretaker, placing Rama's sandals on the throne as a symbol of the true king!

THE TRICK
THE GOLDEN DEER
Ravana (demon king of Lanka) sent the demon Maricha disguised as a beautiful golden deer. Sita begged Rama to catch it. Lakshmana drew a protective circle around their hut โ but Sita crossed it, and Ravana swooped down and abducted her in his flying chariot Pushpaka Vimana!
RAVANA
THE DEMON KING
Ravana had 10 heads and 20 arms. He was the most powerful being in the universe โ a devotee of Shiva who had earned immense boons through his tapas (penance). He could not be killed by gods or demons โ only by a HUMAN. That's why Vishnu incarnated as Rama!
Ravana was not just a villain โ he was also a great scholar, musician, and devotee of Shiva. In some traditions he is revered despite his moral failure.

HANUMAN
THE MIGHTY DEVOTEE
Hanuman โ son of Vayu the wind god, general of the Vanara (monkey) army โ leapt across the ocean to Lanka in one giant bound! He found Sita imprisoned in the Ashoka grove, delivered Rama's ring as proof, and burned down Lanka with his flaming tail before escaping!
THE BRIDGE
RAMA'S SETU
The Vanara army built a bridge of floating stones across the ocean to Lanka. Each stone bore Rama's name and floated miraculously. The bridge (called Adam's Bridge or Rama Setu) actually exists as a chain of limestone shoals between India and Sri Lanka!
REAL ARCHAEOLOGY
NASA satellite images in 2002 revealed the chain of underwater rocks matching the Rama Setu location described in the Ramayana!

THE FINAL BATTLE
RAMA VS RAVANA
The war in Lanka lasted many days. Ravana's army was mighty โ Kumbhakarna, Indrajit, and countless demons. Each time Rama cut off one of Ravana's heads, another grew back! Finally, the sage Agastya revealed to Rama the secret Aditya Hridayam mantra. Rama fired Brahmastra โ the divine arrow โ and it pierced Ravana through the navel (where his life force was stored). Ravana fell. Sita was freed. The universe rejoiced.
Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman returned to Ayodhya on Pushpaka Vimana. The people lit oil lamps (diyas) to welcome them โ the origin of Diwali!
