NET FORCE
WHO WINS THE PULL?
Forces are pushes and pulls. Often more than one force acts on the same object at once. Add them as a team and you get the net force. If the team cancels to zero, forces are balanced. If one side wins, forces are unbalanced and the object's motion can change.

Balanced forces mean no change in motion. A book resting on a table has gravity down and the table pushing up. Those forces balance, so the book stays put. A hockey puck sliding on smooth ice can keep nearly constant speed if friction is tiny and horizontal forces cancel. Balanced does not always mean stopped. It means the motion story is not changing.

Unbalanced forces cause acceleration: speeding up, slowing down, or changing direction. Kick a ball and the kick briefly wins, so the ball speeds up. Friction and air drag later win, so it slows.
