Mass measures how much matter an object contains. It stays the same whether you are on Earth, the Moon, or floating in deep space. Weight is the gravitational force pulling on that mass. Change the gravity, and weight changes even if the object is still the same object.

In science, mass is often measured in kilograms. Weight, being a force, is measured in newtons. Bathroom scales are usually marked in kilograms, but they actually sense the force of your weight and then display a mass number that assumes Earth gravity. An astronaut's mass is about the same on the Moon as on Earth. Moon gravity is weaker, roughly one-sixth of Earth's surface gravity, so the astronaut's weight is much smaller there.
